- May•UNESCO signed trust fund agreements with Shenzhen to set up a higher education innovation center based in SUSTech.
- January•Professor Chen Shiyi, a fellow of CAS and former Vice President of Peking University, took office as the second President of SUSTech

- November•Founding Ceremony and Inaugural Forum for Shenzhen International Friendship-city University League held. Members from 28 universities delivered message promoting more global higher education cooperation and exchange.

- June•Seven talents of SUSTech included in the Young Overseas High-level Talents Introduction Plan released by Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee Head, ranking the university 6th nationwide.
